Steve McCurry. Afghanistan

Steve McCurry. Afghanistan

Gebundene Ausgabe

Gebundenes Buch

The Decisive Moment - Henri Cartier-Bresson

The Decisive Moment

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Gebundene Ausgabe

Buch mit Leinen-Einband
The Decisive Moment-originally called Images à la Sauvette- is one of the most famous books in the history of photography, assembling Cartier-Bresson's best work from his early years. Published in 1952 by Simon and Schuster, New York, in collaboration with Editions Verve, Paris, it was lavishly embellished with a collage cover by Henri Matisse. The book and its images have since influenced generations of photographers. Its English title has defined the notion of the famous formal peak in which all elements in the photographic frame accumulate to form the perfect image. Paired with the artist's humanist viewpoint, Cartier-Bresson's photography has become part of the world's collective memory. This new publication is a meticulous facsimile of the original book. It comes with an additional booklet containing an essay on the history of The Decisive Moment by Centre Pompidou curator Clément Chéroux.

On Photography (Penguin Modern Classics) - Susan Sontag

On Photography (Penguin Modern Classics)

Susan Sontag

Taschenbuch

Broschiertes Buch
How do we see the world around us? The Penguin on Design series includes the works of creative thinkers whose writings on art, design and the media have changed our vision forever. Susan Sontag's groundbreaking critique of photography asks forceful questions about the moral and aesthetic issues surrounding this art form. Photographs are everywhere. They have the power to shock, idealize or seduce, they create a sense of nostalgia and act as a memorial, and they can be used as evidence against us or to identify us. In six incisive essays, Sontag examines the ways in which we use these omnipresent images to manufacture a sense of reality and authority in our lives.

Omaha Sketchbook

Omaha Sketchbook

Gebundene Ausgabe

Throughout his career, Gregory Halpern has explored the elusive, inchoate notion of Americanness. It is both a difficult subject and a lofty prospect for any photographer and it remains an absolutely essential line of investigation, particularly in the context of the current political maelstrom. Traveling to the nation's heartland-a vague construct increasingly synonymous with the Bible belt-Halpern continues to mine this idea of Americanness in a place bounded by prairie and steeped in pioneer history. His work in the midwestern city of Omaha reveals America as pluralized, fragmented, and teeming with its own 'brand of hypermasculinity', as he terms it: adolescents on the cusp of promise or obscurity, land that seemingly leads to nowhere, a sense of unending time and a dark side to domesticity. Halpern's efforts to visualize America yield an opportunity to learn about the country by staring back at images of it that breed their own complexity. " - Amanda Maddox, J. Paul Getty Museum For the last fifteen years, Gregory Halpern has been photographing in Omaha, Nebraska, steadily compiling a lyrical, if equivocal, response to the American Heartland. In loosely-collaged spreads that reproduce his construction-paper sketchbooks, Halpern takes pleasure in cognitive dissonance and unexpected harmonies, playing on a sense of simultaneous repulsion and attraction to the place. Omaha Sketchbook is ultimately a meditation on America, on the men and boys who inhabit it, and on the mechanics of aggression, inadequacy, and power.

Sebastião Salgado. Africa: Eye on Africa - Thirty Years of Africa Images, Selected by Salgado Himself

Mia Couto

Gebundene Ausgabe

Gebundenes Buch
