Rubinstein Collection Vol. 80: Recital for Israel 1975Audio CDIm Jahr vor der Beendigung seiner öffentlichen Auftritte gab der schon fast erblindete, 86-jährige Arthur Rubinstein 1975 in Pasadena/ Kalifornien ein Wohltätigkeitskonzert für das internationale Jugendzentrum in Jerusalem, das ihm wohl sehr am Herzen gelegen haben muss. Es grenzt an ein Wunder, dass dieser alte Mann noch mit einer Klarheit und Vitalität Klavier spielt, die manch Jüngerem nicht mehr zueigen ist. Ein bewegendes Erlebnis muss es gewesen sein, diesen musikalisch durch und durch weisen Herrn zu erleben, der noch Chopin kennen gelernt haben könnte, wenn dieser ebenso alt geworden wäre: ein pianistisches Jahrhundert ging damals seinem Ende zu. < P> Rubinstein schonte sich nicht; er wählte ein großes romantisches Klavierrepertoire. Nicht alles gelingt ihm mehr makellos. Aber dies betrifft fast nie seine überlegene Interpretationskunst und souveräne Technik, die er sich frei von manierierten Tricks und Angewohnheiten bewahrt hat. Freilich könnte der Kopfsatz der Appassionata konziser durchgeformt werden. Beethovens Sonate ist halt kein romantisches Klangwerk, wie zum Beispiel Chopins Scherzo in cis-Moll, dessen aufwühlendes Kopfthema Rubinstein in gestochen rhythmischer Präzision vorführt, das Seitenthema aber über die Tongirlanden hinweg breit atmen lässt. Auch das äußerst wache und überzeugt vorwärts strebende Prélude Debussys ist ein Beleg für Rubinsteins klare Auffassung noch im gesegneten Alter. < I>-Adalbert J. Osterried |

International Track and Field from Kanomi is one of these for the Sydney Olympic games. So with Britain having done well in the Olympics, its your turn to try your luck at winning those gold medals. Based on the already popular International Track and Field series, this version sees the usual array of events and the addition of some new ones. Try your luck at the ever-impossible 100m Dash-this is the same for every track and field game-the more unusual Pole Vault or even Horizontal Bar event. The game can be very competitive at times, with you having to perform to your best abilities in an attempt to get placed. Every event has a different technique to it and once mastered this makes the game a lot more enjoyable, although to begin with can be very frustrating. International Track and Field is on a par with Sydney 2000 by Eidos and Virtua Athlete, with all three offering you an array of different events. If you really are a fan of the Olympics then perhaps the safest bet is to check out all three, as you would then have most of the Olympic events covered. -Stuart Miles |
