Pop Art: Kleine Reihe - Genres (Taschen Basic Art Series)Klaus HonnefTaschenbuchIn der Vergangenheit hat der Taschen Verlag immer wieder gezeigt, dass man auch im Bereich des Kunstbuchs Qualität und niedrige Preise auf das Beste miteinander verknüpfen kann. Der Pop Art-Band des ehemaligen documenta-Mitorganisators und jetzigen Kassler Fotografie-Professors Klaus Honnef ist hierfür wieder einmal ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel: Auf beinahe 100 Seiten präsentiert er anhand der eindrucksvoll-poppigen Werke von Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Peter Blake, Claes Oldenburg oder George Segal die ganze Bandbreite einer Kunstströmung, die ihre Herkunft aus der populären Reklame- und Comicwelt ihrer Zeit keineswegs verleugnete, bisweilen aber enthusiastisch übersteigerte oder auch ironisch brach, als Retrospektive zwischen zwei Buchdeckeln. Honnef hat sich entschieden, für einen Großteil seiner Abbildungen Exponate aus dem Kölner Museum Ludwig zu verwenden - ob des Standorts des Taschen Verlags und seinen mannigfachen Verflechtungen mit der lokalen Kunstszene der Domstadt kein Wunder. Im Fall von Pop Art wird man ihm das aber gern verzeihen. Nicht nur, dass im Museum Ludwig eine Sammlung von Pop-Art-Künstlern hängt, die europaweit ihresgleichen sucht: In klugen Kommentaren gelingt es Honnef auch, den Beispielcharakter der vorgestellten Bilder und Skulpturen für die Bewegung, die in den 1950er-Jahren in England begann und sich alsbald in den U S A weiterentwickelte, schlüssig zu entfalten. So ist Pop Art ein schmaler, aber feiner (und überaus preiswerter) Überblick über eine der aufregendsten Richtungen innerhalb der modernen Nachkriegskunst geworden, der es an Gehalt mit jedem dicken Kunstbuchwälzer aufnehmen kann. -Thomas Köster |
