Günther Förg. Photographs. Bauhaus Tel Aviv - JerusalemGünther FörgTaschenbuchKlare Gebäudeformen, Fensterbänder, Flachdächer und Loggien charakterisieren zahlreiche Häuser in Jerusalem und Tel Aviv. Dort entstanden im Verlauf der 30er- und 40er-Jahre rund 1. 500 Bauten, die sich an den sozialen, technischen und ästhetischen Vorstellungen der Bauhausbewegung orientierten. Ausschlaggebend für diese Entwicklung waren etwa 130 Architekten, die am Bauhaus in Weimar und Dessau, in Berlin, Wien, Brüssel oder Paris bei den Baumeistern der Klassischen Moderne studiert hatten und nach ihrer Flucht vor der nationalsozialistischen Diktatur hier ihre neue Wirkungsstätte fanden. Der 1952 in Füssen im Allgäu geborene Künstler Günther Förg durchstreifte 2001 mit seiner Kamera die beiden israelischen Städte, um den umfangreichen Bestand an Bauhausbauten immigrierter Architekten fotografisch zu erforschen. Das Buch umfasst 182 unkonventionelle Architekturaufnahmen in Schwarz-Weiß und wird durch zwei kurze, das Thema einführende Essays eingeleitet. Förg beschreibt ein Gebäude meist in mehreren Abbildungen. Dabei sind Gesamtansichten der Fassaden ebenso zu sehen wie detaillierte Nahaufnahmen. Im Sinne des " Neuen Sehens" von Laszlo Moholy-Nagy zeigt Förg beispielsweise die leicht geschwungenen Balkonbänder an den Gebäuden von Genia Averbouch, die diese 1934 im Alter von 25 Jahren am Kikar-Zina-Dizengoff-Platz in Tel Aviv erbaut hat. Mit einem ähnlichen Blick schildert er in zwei Innenaufnahmen des Gerzon-Hauses in Jerusalem die konkrete Gestaltung des Treppenhauses. Die Qualität der Schwarz-Weiß-Aufnahmen von Günther Förg findet sich aber nicht nur in der Auswahl außergewöhnlicher Motive, sondern auch in dem Mut, die Bauwerke nicht idyllisch zu verklären, sondern in ihrem zeitgemäßen Zustand mit allen Gebrauchsspuren unkaschiert darzustellen. Günther Förg, der ursprünglich als Maler und Bildhauer tätig war, hat sich bereits früher mit außergewöhnlichen Bauwerken wie der Villa Malaparte oder dem Haus Wittgenstein fotografisch auseinander gesetzt. Mit diesem Bildband ist ihm ein weiteres überzeugendes künstlerisches Zeitdokument gelungen. -Stefan Meyer |

BalkonOrhan PamukGebundene AusgabeBuch mit Leinen-Einband In the winter of 2011 Nobel-Prize-winning Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk took 8, 500 color photographs from his balcony with its panoramic view of Istanbul, the entrance of the Bosphorus, the old town, the Asian and European sides of the city, the surrounding hills, and the distant islands and mountains. Sometimes he would leave his writing desk and follow the movements of the boats as they passed in front of his apartment and sailed far away. As Pamuk obsessively created these images he felt his desire to do so was related to a strange particular mood he was experiencing. He photographed further and began to think about what was happening to himself: Why was he taking these photos? How are seeing and photography related? What is the affinity between writing and seeing? Why do we enjoy looking at landscapes and landscape photographs? Balkon presents almost 500 of these photos selected by Pamuk, who has also co-designed the book and written its introduction. |
