Baden Powell - Velho Amigo: O Universo MusicalDVD
" Baden Powell was a guitar virtuoso. In the history of Brazilian music he stands as the musician that went looking for his african roots, opening the way for the new generation of singers and guitarists. Due to him, the vastness of Brazilian rhytms were indexed and saved from oblivion. In the history of western music he remains a unique musician, capable if mastering the literature of classical guitar, Brazilian folklore in the most complete manner, baroque music and jazz. Exeptional guitarist, never giving in to the traps of technical virtuosity, he gave proof of exemplary sensitivity and creativeness which allowed him to affirm himself as a remarquable composer. His collaborations with Vinicius de Moraes or Billy Blanco, come easily to mind. Jean Claude Guiter, director of the documentary, was a friend of Baden Powell. Far from wanting to trace a superficial portrait of the musician, he spent three years following the guitarist who, little by little, related the story of his live. Together they went back to places of importance during his live, troughout Brazil and in Paris. They offer us an exceptional point of view of his apprenticeship, his beginnings as a professional musician in the Rio de Janeiro of the 1950's, his collaboration with Vinicius de Moraes, his encounter with french poet Pierre Barouh and Claude Nougaro, his love for a Europe that had welcomed and acclaimed him.
