Drogenexzesse, Frauengeschichten und Gefängnisaufenthalte sorgten dafür, dass zeitweise die Musik zur Nebensächlichkeit verkam. Der mysteriöse Tod Chet Bakers am 13. Mai 1988 half zusätzlich mit, an einer Legende zu stricken, deren wahres Gesicht bis heute immer noch schwer zu durchschauen ist. < P> Dem niederländischen Journalisten Jeroen de Valk ist es gelungen, das facettenreiche Leben des Jazzmusikers aufzuarbeiten und transparenter zu machen.
